As I walked into that room, where you once use to be, Just the echo from my footsteps, were pounding back at me. I tried to explain, that I know how it must have made you feel, That a man can make mistakes, she meant nothing, it wasn’t real.
Chorus
There was no smell of your fried chicken, no smell of your sweet perfume, No reason to even be here, Oh how I prayed you’d be home soon. No clock above the mantel, to remind me how much time has past Since I broke your heart and left me, how I hoped it didn’t last No candles on the table, no stereo on with familiar tunes, The only thing here to greet me, was this big old empty room.
It had been 6 long weeks that evening, since I left town with that long load, But you wouldn’t come along this time and that night the devil took my soul. A man always needs his woman, her sweet lips, her naked skin against his side, To make love to and hold tightly, to caress, to walk beside you and smile with pride.
As I sat at that bar in Richmond, thinking about you across the miles. How I longed for your soft touch, I missed your smile, those big brown eyes, Then she walked across the room, as she sat beside me and touched my arm, She smiled said Hi, my name is Rosa, you look lonely, I mean no harm.
As the weeks passed me by, it didn't feel like my home, Every day got harder, for me to walk in alone. Then one Friday night, as I was turning the key, I thought I was dreaming, but things were clear to me.
Chrous
There was that smell of your fried chicken, the smell of your sweet perfume, Every reason for me to be here, Oh how I prayed you’d be home soon. The clock was on the mantel, to remind me how precious time can be, I will treasure you forever, now that you came back to me. There were candles on the table, stereo on with familiar tunes, And you were here to greet me, I could feel the love in this old room.
There was that smell of your fried chicken, the smell of your sweet perfume, Every reason for me to be here, Oh how I prayed you’d be home soon. The clock was on the mantel, to remind me how precious time can be....... |
